POCCA, the Private Ophidian Captive Conservation Association is an international association put in place with the ultimate goal of protecting snake species worldwide. To this day, hundreds of snake species are endangered because of pollution, habitat modification or even destruction.
To help fight specific and genetic diversity loss, POCCA engages itself to create a network of passionate herpetologists who will have the task of breeding species that are considered endangered. This system will equally serve as a database and to ease information exchange on the captive reproduction and captive maintenance of species on the IUCN Redlist, the CITES appendix I and of other species of high endemism.
In bulk, POCCA is meant to link our hobby with captive conservation in the goal of, one day, use the captive specimens to supply and to restore some populations of snakes in their habitat.
Give your hobby a meaning! Take part in captive conservation of endangered species, develop contacts with people from across the world and join the ranks of the POCCA!
Our website is actually only in French but we are working on the English side of it, which will be the main communication language.
